Intersection of Sherman and Washington Avenues at Montgomery Road
in Norwood, Ohio, ca. 1940s.

This image was created from a negative in the possession of the City of Norwood. The time the picture was taken was probably in the early to mid-1940s. The main street is Montgomery Road or Pike (a.k.a. Main Avenue). The intersecting street at the top is Sherman Avenue and the street at the bottom right is Washington Avenue. When Surrey Square was built, Sherman Avenue was continued across Montgomery Road to a connection at Smith Road. Washington Avenue was closed from Montgomery Road to Lafayette Avenue and that land is now part of the shopping center. Some things that can be seen in this photograph are the signs pointing the way to the Norwood Christian Church on Washington Avenue and the Roller Rink on Sherman Avenue. Business that can be identified are Goldsmith's, Serodino Drugs, Vogue Apparel Shop, Woolworth's, Bob's Men's Wear, Shopwell and Model Shoe Store. See [COMPANIES] for more information about these businesses. And how about those old cars and streetcar tracks!
