Today, the site of the old Dexter Lumber Company is the location of the Norwood Frisch's restaurant and a hotel.
The McFarlan Lumber Company, located at Montgomery Road and the B.&O.S.W. Railroad (east of Station Avenue), was incorporated in 1887 or early 1888, with Frank B. McFarlan, President. A January, 1888, newspaper column about Norwood described the McFarlan company as "doing much towards booming the Norwoods." After the August 1888, election of the first village officials, The McFarlan Company offered the use of its office to the Mayor and Council until they could acquire permanent quarters.
In January, 1892, The Dexter Lumber Company incorporated and took over the McFarlan business; T. J. McFarlan was President. In later years, the address of the company was 4765 Montgomery Road and the telephone number was Ridge 99, then JEfferson 3078 and finally 531-3078.
In 1902, another lumber company—Etowah Lumber Company—appeared to share the same address.
